BRIENNE MOODY
at sacred sheep
LECTURE: TRUE NORTH: Knitting Toward What Matters: Saturday 3:30-5pm $65
In a time when much feels unsteady, knitting can become a compass. In True North: Knitting Toward What Matters, Minnesota designer Brienne Moody explores how place, structure, and story shape the sweaters we make and the creative communities we build around them. Drawing from her design practice along Lake Superior, her work as a running and strength coach, and her experience teaching knitters to design from gauge rather than guesswork, this lecture offers a clear framework for knitting with intention. Through personal examples and practical tools, participants will leave with renewed creative direction, a stronger sense of alignment, and the confidence to approach their projects with clarity and autonomy.
Brienne Moody is a knitwear designer, teacher, and runner based in Grand Marais, Minnesota. Her patterns have been featured in La Bien Aimée's Neons and Neutrals, She Does: Words of Wisdom from North Shore Mompreneurs, and Taproot magazine, and she teaches at North House Folk School.
Whether she's coaching her high school distance team, teaching strength training, or guiding a knitter through a new technique, her approach is the same: break the big thing into smaller steps, let a story drive the work, and make sure it's actually enjoyable to do. She prioritizes what she calls knittability — the belief that beautiful design should also be a pleasure to make. Brienne helps knitters find their own pace and unravel the stories only they can tell.

LECTURE: The Spirit of Cloth: How What We Wear Tells Our Story: Saturday 11:30am-1pm $65
Every stitch, seam, and thread carries a story. In this immersive and reflective workshop, The Spirit of Cloth, Candice English of Farmer’s Daughter Fibers invites you to explore how the garments we wear and the ones we make become living expressions of who we are.
Rooted in Candice’s own Blackfeet heritage and Montana upbringing, this class examines how clothing throughout history has served as a language of identity, belonging, and spirit.
Together, we’ll discuss how materials, color, and craftsmanship reflect culture and lineage and how those same values live on in modern making. Participants will be invited to reflect on their own creative practices, tracing how their making journey is about far more than creating something to wear. It’s about honoring the stories we carry, the land we come from, and the threads that connect us all.
Candice English is the founder and creative director of Farmer's Daughter Fibers, a hand-dyed yarn company rooted in Great Falls, Montana. As a maker, storyteller, and woman of Blackfeet heritage, Candice brings a deeply personal lens to the intersection of craft, culture, and identity. She believes that what we make and what we wear has never been just about fabric; it's about lineage, belonging, and the stories we carry forward. Equal parts thoughtful and down to earth, she creates space in the classroom where makers of all backgrounds feel seen, sparked, and invited to go a little deeper.

ELISE WEBB
at sacred sheep
LECTURE: FIBERS, FABRICS AND FIXES: Saturday 1:30pm-3pm $65
We will learn about the materials that make up our clothes (both handmade and commercial) and why that matters when mending them. Learn where clothing damage typically comes from and how to anticipate it. We’ll then talk about some basic “rules” of mending, do a quick tour of many different techniques, and take a look at some tools of the trade. There will be a Q&A time at the end of the lecture. This is a great starting point for crafters who don’t want their hands held through every step, but want to be shown where to start.
Elise Webb has spent most of her life in the fiber arts. As a girl she raised goats for 4H, she learned to knit, crochet, weave, and spin, with a focus on the historical. In her adult life she took those skills to work at both a local yarn shop and the Nike fabric library. In 2021 she answered the call of “can anyone fix this sweater?” from yarn store customers and started Village Mending. In a few years it grew from a part time gig to a full time mending service specializing in knitwear but accepting all clothing.
Elise takes a restoration mindset to mending. She likes to focus on the hard work of the original craftsperson, whether that was a dear family member or a stranger far away. She enjoys teaching people to mend and to appreciate the value of their clothes.

WORKSHOP: FILET CROCHET Friday: 11:30am-1:30pm $125
Filet Crochet: In this advanced-beginning crochet class we will level up your crochet skills! “Filet” meaningnetin french, is a lace making technique wherein a gridded net is constructed and, selectively, open cells are filled in to create simple, monochromatic designs. In this workshop you will learn the basics of filet crochet and construction techniques. Students will learn to read and work from a chart to create a filet swatch and will be provided instruction to make their swatches into a small mesh bag!
Elspeth Vance is a fiber artist and textile designer, living and working in Portland OR. Under the umbrella of her brand, Noctiluca, she knits one-of-a-kind garments and home goods by hand on two needles. Her designs investigate various textile structures and seek to uncover their commonalities; how is weaving like knitting? Or knot tying like weaving? These explorations have led her to reinterpret historic weave drafts into charted knitting patterns, a delightful marriage of her most beloved textile practices.
