In a time when much feels unsteady, knitting can become a compass. In True North: Knitting Toward What Matters, Minnesota designer Brienne Moody explores how place, structure, and story shape the sweaters we make and the creative communities we build around them. Drawing from her design practice along Lake Superior, her work as a running and strength coach, and her experience teaching knitters to design from gauge rather than guesswork, this lecture offers a clear framework for knitting with intention. Through personal examples and practical tools, participants will leave with renewed creative direction, a stronger sense of alignment, and the confidence to approach their projects with clarity and autonomy.

Instructor
Brienne Moody is a knitwear designer, teacher, and runner based in Grand Marais, Minnesota. Her patterns have been featured in La Bien Aimée's Neons and Neutrals, She Does: Words of Wisdom from North Shore Mompreneurs, and Taproot magazine, and she teaches at North House Folk School.
Whether she's coaching her high school distance team, teaching strength training, or guiding a knitter through a new technique, her approach is the same: break the big thing into smaller steps, let a story drive the work, and make sure it's actually enjoyable to do. She prioritizes what she calls knittability — the belief that beautiful design should also be a pleasure to make. Brienne helps knitters find their own pace and unravel the stories only they can tell.
